Re: Hobbies?ã By: Thumper to All on Tue Jun 11 2019 10:31 amããInteresting to hear what peoples' hobbies are here..ããI have multiple things I enjoy doing in my free time, but lately it seems Iãdon't have a whole lot of time for hobbies. Sometimes here and there when Iãcan.ããOne thing I enjoy doing is working on some of my own software projects every soãoften. Often that includes my BBS tools (SlyEdit, message reader, etc.), butãI've had other software projects I've worked on from time to time. A few yearsãago, I started working on an Android app to help track fuel economy.. The ideaãwould be that when you go fill up the gas tank for your car, you'd enter theãfill amount and distance you drove, and it would keep track of fuel economyãover time (and could also track things like price paid per a gallon of gas,ãcost of gas for a mile driven, etc.). I saw that there were a lot of similarãapps available, so I wasn't too motivated to finish it, but I got theãunderlying Java support code done.. The last part would be finishing theãAndroid UI.ããI also like playing guitar and keyboards sometimes. That's something I haven'tãdone a whole lot lately, but I still enjoy it. I also sometimes enjoy retroãvideo game emulation and the ways that can be done, and tinkering withãelectronics (I like to build my own desktop PC when I upgrade to a new PC,ãetc.). Occasionally I've enjoyed building plastic model kits and flying my R/Cãhelicopter, but I haven't done either of those for a long time.ããNightfoxãã---ã þ Synchronet þ Digital Distortion: digitaldistortionbbs.comã

However the football teamãã400 for me is a very recent thing. I never could run it as a kid. Even 200ãwas pushing it. Now, I can run 400 in 61 seconds. Still a bit off the pace inãmy age group, but still useful for the 4x400m relay. My best range is 60-200ãmetres, though I'm not yet getting full acceleration. That needs just lotsãmore work and practice starts, doing them like drills. :)ãã ZM> worked out near the track and their coach got wind of my 100 and 200ã ZM> times/splits and asked me if I wanted to play rb. I always likedã ZM> football better than anything but wussed out and stayed with trackã ZM> despite pulling a 4.6 40 on my first try.ããI presume you mean 40 yards (I've read about that speed test). Footballãreferences are not going to translate, because we play a totally different formãof football here. :) No idea what I'd run 40 yards in. I ran 60 metres inã8.48 2 months ago at the nationals, have been known to get down to 8.32, and myãhand timed 75 yard time should be around 9-9.5 seconds. Last pre-season, Iãscored around 9.6, but I was holding back, to save myself for a mafor meet 2ãweeks later. :)ããThe 75 yard measure is one we use in our fire brigade competitions, becauseãthat sport dates back to the mid 1800s, when we used to use Imperialãmeasurements. The track markings are still in the same places for theãtraditional events. That means we also have a natural 100 yard measure, whichãis from the first start line to the hydrants. But that's a sport that's goingãto take a lot of explaining (with vids!). It is, however, the reason I took upãtrack 4 years ago. I needed more speed. :)ããã... Growing older is typical.
