The C64 is the most popular fo the 3 you mentioned. And if you use an emulator (e.g.
https://vice-emu.sourceforge.io/ or a TheC64
https://retrogames.biz/) it'll run in either C64 or VIC20 modes. Though I don't know why anyone would *choose* to program a VIC20 over a C64.ããSo I guess I would suggest you use an emulator, then you can use whichever is most appropriate for the book/chapter/section that you're learning from.ãã digital manããThis Is Spinal Tap quote #26:ãDavid St. Hubbins: They were still booing him when we came on stage.ãNorco, CA WX: 96.3øF, 33.0% humidity, 0 mph NE wind, 0.00 inches rain/24hrsã---ã þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.netã

Re: Basic Computer Gamesã By: Basschestra to All on Sat Aug 15 2020 12:20 pmããIf you have the Creative Computing books, I think those sources were originally for a BASIC interpreter for a DEC minicomputer.ããMy experience trying to resurrect old BASIC games is that each interpreter has it's own quirks so you will have to massage the code to some extent no matter what BASIC system you want it to run on.ãã---ã þ Synchronet þ The Undermine - bbs.undermine.ca:423ã

Basschestra wrote to All <=-ãã Ba> So again,ã Ba> what computer should I use for book Basic computer Games.ã Ba> C64, CPET, VIC-20ã Ba> or another?ããThe TRS-80 version of BASIC computer games is specific for the TRS-80.ããIf you don't have a TRS-80, then the BASIC Games for Microcomputers is the bookãto use.ããBut that version of BASIC computer games programs in BASIC to the "lowestãcommon denominator" and won't use any of theãfeatures in the C64, PET or VIC. It will treat your screen like a glassãteletype (no clear screen, no color, no cursorãpositioning) and no sound other than basic beep (i.e. print chr$(7) which isãASCII BEL - a teletype's bell).ããã... If you want to play games then you should buy a console and the best one is play station 5. If not for gaming then stick to your pc. A have both and my play station is for triple-A games and especially Sony exclusives. The pc is for the world and online games. I play league of legends on my pc and I wish that online gaming will be available on consoles because I hate that I always have to buy different items for my pc. 2 weeks ago my monitor broke and I had to buy a new one. After some searching, I found a website
https://10roar.com/ that had reviews on the best monitors. I chose the best option and it arrived today. I can easily say that this monitor is really good and that it will last.

There are plenty of good PC games that don't need to be played online (as well as good online games). I've actually tended to be more of a PC gamer than a console gamer, and there are lots of good games for PC.ãã ma> pc and I wish that online gaming will be available on consoles because Iã ma> hate that I always have to buy different items for my pc. 2 weeks ago myããI was pretty sure online gaming is a thing on consoles? It was extrememly popular and therefore you'llãget the most support there.ãHowever the basic is kind of crap actually. Almost anything you want to doãwith the hardware requires a complex series of peeks and pokes whereas otherãsystems (Apple II, TI-99/4a (extended basic), even TRS-80) had basic commandsãlike graphics, plot, sound, joystick, etc...ããThe basic on the C128 has a lot more commands so there's that.ãã---ã þ Synchronet þ Mutiny BBS - mutinybbs.com - telnet:2332 - ssh:2232ã

Almost anything you wantã Di> to do with the hardware requires a complex series of peeks and pokesã Di> whereas other systems (Apple II, TI-99/4a (extended basic), evenã Di> TRS-80) had basic commands like graphics, plot, sound, joystick, etc...ããYa, that had to do with many things, but mostly cost. So add graphic/soundãcommands to BASIC on the C-64, for example, they'd have to go back to Microsoftãand get a new license, which they didn't want to do for cost purposes. Or haveãtheir programmers spent a great deal of time, which they didn't want to do,ãagain for cost purposes.ããThe programs in "BASIC Computer Games" will run on just about anyãimplementation of BASIC from the Altair through GW-BASIC on the IBM-PC.ããã...
