I neverãencountered Renegade until years later when I started telneting... same goesãfor countless other popular ones like Virtual Advanced, PCBoard, TeleGard, etc.ãTo this day I *still* have yet to ever call a BBS running ProBoard, SpitFire,ãSearchlight, TriBBS, GAP, and many others... absolutely no one ran them in myãarea, which seems so strange now.ãã > EE> At first, I didn't get the BBS thing at all and hated it. VGA Planets came later..ããBesides the obsessive TW2002 playing, I was into LORD, The Pit, and Global Warãfor a while. I also posted on local message bases a lot, most boards in myãarea had a post-call ratio anyway. I never really got into networks, sinceãWWIV had crappy network support. The only boards with Fido were WildCat ones,ãand WC has such a terrible message interface... blah...ããA few years later, I discovered there actually was a MajorBBS in my localãcalling area, and MajorMud proceeded to eat up the next few years of my life :)ãã > EE> Sort of, just with even poorer user tracking... you could keep doing itã > EE> month after month and they'd never have any idea...ã > ã > ...no wonder they almost went under...ããLOL... well, they fixed that problem a loooong time ago, luckily for them. Iãthink the main reason they eventually got beaten by AOL was that Prodigyãinsisted on sticking with their nonstandard GUI, even when they started puttingãout Windows versions the interface remained this crazy stone-age thing...ãã---ã þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.netã

I found it had a uniqueãinterface. Whether it was any good is another story. All the kiddies ranãRenegade in my area. However, we did have a bit of a spread:ããSearchlight - Ran by a guy that eventually had a sex change operation and movedãto Montana.ãSynchronet - Was up for two years or so. Didn't have much interesting content.ãPCBoard - Had a VGA Planets thing. Run by a biker dude.ãMaximus - One system run by a woman in Kingston, NY. The other was run by aãhippy-turned-technician in Woodstock. The latter was my favorite since it wasãthe most technical-oriented.ãProboard - Run by a grumpy old man, so we think from some of the intolerance heãshowed.ãWilcat! - as previously mentionedãRemote Access - strange interfacing. Too many games and not enough users toãpopulate them.ããThe rest were Renegade. They have some stories to them too, but not asãinteresting as the guy turned girl. ;)ã---ã þ Synchronet þ Hot babes use Nostalgia BBS! -- nostalgia.hellskitchen.orgã
