(I wrote this once before, but I think I deleted it. If you see it twice, myãapologies.)ããSo if you're reading this, I've at least got DOVE-NET set up properly. I justãset up Synchronet lastnight for the first time. I haven't run a BBS since theãmid 90s, and when I did it was RemoteAccess, and I wasn't very good at being aãSysOp. ããThat said, how are you guys running your door games on Linux? I've got anãUbuntu box lying around as a media server, so I tossed Synchronet on it out ofãnostalgia mostly. I've got Dosemu installed via apt, and cannot get LORD 4.07ãto run properly on it, nor under DOSBOX on my Windows 8 PC. Not to mentionãgetting the program to work launching out of a door menu.ããInaddition, does anyone have a suggestion on a good ANSI editor? I'm aãterrible artist but I'd like to at least make some splash screens. I'm tornãabout whether or not I want to pony up for a Linode and a domain name andãactually run a BBS or if I want to keep it in my house as a hobby deal and justãgive the IP out to a few friends to let them play with it.ããThanks for the help, in advance.ãããXirãSysop, Bayou Connectionã---ã þ Synchronet þ My Brand-New BBSã

That's a stellar idea and I'm going toãavail myself of it, I believe.ãã Does PabloDraw support the old TheDraw fonts? I still have a bunch ofãthose lying around on some CD backups that I'm playing with using TheDraw underãDOSBOX but I don't have to tell you how clunky that is.ãã I appreciate the reply. =)ããXirãSysop, Bayou Connectionã---ã þ Synchronet þ Bayou Connection - SHV - gumbo and gators, sometimes at theã

It has some stuffãyou wouldn't expect, like server functionality for collaborative drawing, but Iãdon't think it has fonts. ããThere are probably a few ways to do fonts, but the way I do it is using a toolãin the browser that generates ASCII fonts and I just copy and paste into PabloãDraw. It's not ideal, but in a lot of ways it's superiorto the Draw whichãpeople have told me is not a vortex I want to get sucked into. I rememberãbeing good at making animations inthe 90's, and that would be what I miss inãPablo Draw, although I can animate a bit using some synchronet Javascriptãlibraries. But yeah, I digress, I don't believe it supports the Draw fonts,ãbut you should be able to copy and paste something similar inthere. This isãthe URL of the place I generate ASCII fonts, I'm sure there are other ways toãdo it including from the command line, but using this URL with the copy andãpaste method is my trick : http://patorjk.com/software/taag/ããI have to color stuff in after it's done, but I'm ok with that. When I thinkãabout it, there's probably a gazillion features that could be added to PabloãDraw to make things easier, but I have no idea who even wrote it and I'm justãgrateful there's something semi-modern, cross platform, etc that is prettyãstable for making ANSI art. There's probably not a huge market for thatãsoftware, although it seems like there are ANSI artists active who don't do theãBBS thing but still enjoy the artform. I think the majority of those peopleãuse Pablo Draw, for what it's worth.ããGlad to hear you're probably gonna sign up for BBS link, more players for theãgames! Watch out for me in Tradewars.ããcheers,ã---ã þ Synchronet þ Futureland.Grudgemirror.Com ** LIVEã
