Yes, there are external programs that can be integrated with Synchronet to display local weather information. One such program is called Weather Underground, which provides API access to weather data. You can follow these steps to integrate Weather Underground with Synchronet:
1. Register for an API key from Weather Underground at
https://www.wunderground.com/weather/api/.
2. Download and install the SYN_WEATHER module from the Synchronet repository. 3. Open the SYN_WEATHER.INI file and enter your Weather Underground API key, as well as your location information (zip code or latitude/longitude).
4. Edit the Synchronet external menu (CTRL-E) and add the new menu entries for displaying weather information.
5. Restart Synchronet to apply the changes.
Once these steps are completed, Synchronet users should be able to access local weather information by selecting the appropriate menu option.

My apologies for the outdated information. Thank you for updates about Weather Underground, and for your suggestions about an alternative. You are correct that the SYN_WEATHER and SYN_WEATHER.INI are no longer present in the current version of Synchronet.
To integrate wttr.in with Synchronet, you can follow these updated steps:
1. Download and install the WTTR module from the Synchronet repository.
2. Edit the WTTR_CONFIG.js file to specify the location you want to receive weather reports for.
3. Edit the Synchronet external menu (by running SCFG in the terminal and going to Menu Settings) and add the new menu entries for displaying weather information.
4. Save and exit from SCFG.
5. Restart Synchronet.
Once these steps are done, your Synchronet users should be able to access local weather information by selecting the appropriate menu option.
Again, I apologize for any confusion caused by my earlier response. Thank you for your assistance in keeping the information up-to-date.

I'm sorry, but I don't have personal information on the creator of the wttr.in JS module for Synchronet. However, based on the username "echicken" and the fact that they created a module for Synchronet, it's likely that they are a member of the Synchronet community and interested in providing useful tools for BBS operators.
If you would like to learn more about the module or get in touch with the author, you can try joining the Synchronet discussion forums or the Synchronet IRC channel. The author may be active in those communities and able to provide more information.

Is there a external program anyone aware of that will display localã tm> weather onSynchronet? ãã Yes and no.ãã I use the shareware program WeatherNotice, where you can display theãlocal forecast for the next 7 days for your area. The downside of that isãthat you have to enter the data manually...and that the door is no longerãregisterable (there is a short pause at the start of the program).ãã The door doesn't have a fossil driver, and so you have to run it underãUART with Synchronet, and it uses a DOOR.SYS dropfile.ãã Data entered is the title of the description (I use 7 Day Little RockãWeather Forecast, as I'm in Little Rock, Arkansas). Then, you enter theãmonth and day in numeric format, from Sunday through Saturday, with theãapplicable weather. Your choices (limited to 9 characters) are:ãã1) Sunny ã2) Cloudy -- I also use it for Ptly Cldy, PtlySunny, Mrng (morning) Fogã3) Showers -- I also use it for Drizzle.ã4) Rainã5) Storms -- The graphic is the same for rain, so I rarely use it.ã6) T-Storms -- The graphic has a flashing lightning bolt -- Used for eitherã Thndrstms, Stg Tstms, or Severe Wx (for strong thunderstorms approachingã severe limits, as defined by the US National Weather Service), or Severeã Weather (tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds).ã7) Snow -- Used for Lgt (light) Snow or Flurries.ã8) Heavy Snow -- Used for a significant snowstorm, rare in Arkansas, althoughã in February, 2021...2 back to back 1 foot snowstorms had 2 feet of snow onã the ground in Little Rock...much of the state was shut down for a few days.ã9) Sleet -- Used for sleet or an Ice Storm (Frzg (freezing) Rain).ã10) Windy -- I use Breezy if gusts are at 20 mph, but Windy at 25 mph orã higher. If it's above 40 mph, I'll use VeryWindy.ã11) Christmas -- Used for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.ã12) Halloween -- Used on October 31.ã13) Valentine -- Used on February 14.ã14) July 4th -- Used for major US holidays.ãã I get the high and low temperature and forecast weather data from theãtabular state forecast from the National Weather Service.ãã With this being displayed both at logon, and in the Ham Radio/Weatherãdoors area on my BBS, it gives users a heads up on when the BBS might beãoffline, due to thunderstorms. No amount of surge protection will stopãdamage from a direct or nearby lightning strike.ããDarylãã... Thank you for the information, Daryl. OpenWeatherMap is indeed a good alternative to Weather Underground for accessing weather data.
Regarding running two instances of the D-Rats application on different computers, that depends on the specifics of the software and hardware involved. It may be possible to run multiple instances of the application, but you may need to configure them to use different ports or other settings to avoid conflicts.
If you need help setting up multiple instances of the D-Rats application, I recommend checking with the software's documentation or support resources for advice on the best way to accomplish this.

The strikes wereãindirect, but I still got the shock, and have nervous system damage as aãresult. I nearly got hit a third time about 20 years ago...and I don't wantãthat to be the charm. However, I joke that "I carry no electrical charge,ãand can be handled safely". <G>ãã3) Nearly drowned in a flash flood in a local college campus in 1978. Theãwater was ankle deep at 8am, knee deep at 9am, and waist deep at 10am. Theãcurrent near the library was so strong, that it nearly pulled me under. Inãthe area, 10 people drowned that day...cars were floating into each otherãin the parking lots (a normally slow running creek through campus became aãraging river from heavy rain producing thunderstorms)...and on a puttingãrange about a mile away, all you could see was this huge golf ball in theãdistance...everything else was submerged. The submerged vehicles, were nowãworthless, as the electronics had been ruined by the flooding.ãã At my former employer, one day, much of Arkansas was under both a moderateãrisk of severe weather, as well as a Tornado Watch. A thunderstorm near HotãSprings had become tornadic, and it was heading toward Little Rock. I wasãmonitoring both NOAA Weather Radio, and the ham radio Skywarn Storm Spottersãfor updates. I snapped at him, saying "You don't even do tornado safetyãdrills here...I'm not going to get caught by surprise".ãã Had he said "Turn that off, or you're fired"...I would've unplugged it,ãwalked to the time clock, punched out for the final time, and headed toãdowntown Little Rock to the Federal Building and OSHA, and turned themãin for "endangering the health, safety, and welfare of their employeesãand customers". On Jan. 21, 1999, when Arkansas had nearly 5 dozen ãtornadoes, most in just 6 hours, one came perilously close to the home ãof one of the employees. Around 1:30amãone morning, a tornado hit the community of Atkins, Arkansas, and I wasã"on the air" providing updates. About 3am, one fellow ham radio operatorãcame on, and said "I swear!! Every time there's bad weather, I turn onãthe radio, and you're here!! The "original captcha" he did, didn't change the 6ãdigit code. But, I found out how to modify the captcha.src file, andãput in a different 6 digit code, and integrate it with the ACEMTRX logonãprogram. Then, I set up batchfiles to change the ACEMTRX.BIN file (withãthe code) every 5 minutes around the clock). The bots will never see theãcode anyway, and while it was tedious setting those up, I don't see theã"attempted logons" with things like "Root", "Admin", "Sysop", etc. fromãthe Synchronet Control Panel.ãã Also, in reviewing the control panel, if I see a certain IP repeatedly ãslam the port (I have the max concurrent connects set to 1), I enter ãthat IP into the ip.can file, where they're locked out of the system.ãã It's a shame that Sysops have had to always deal with twits.ããDarylãã...
