New email (SMTP) alert not triggered when not logged in

Hey DM,ããI've noticed with 3.19, and now 3.20, that when an email comes in (SMTP), and Iãam not logged in - I get no notice that there is an email there waiting for meã(like you receive with echomail and netmail).ããI thought it used to happen, but I could be mistaken.ããWhen I am logged in, I do get a notification that an email had just beenãreceived.ããAnyway that can be fixed (or added if I was mistaken and it was never working)?ããIE: A "you've got new email" message when you log in.ããã...ëîåïãã---ã þ Synchronet þ AnsiTEX bringing back videotex but with ANSIã

If I get an internet email while I'm not logged in, the next time I do log in it defaults to "Yes" when it asks if I want to read my email. If I have no new email, it defaults to "No" when it asks that. I'm still on 3.19.ãã---ã þ Synchronet þ TIRED of waiting 2 hours for a taco? GO TO TACOPRONTO.bbs.ioã

If the key isn't configured, it'll default to a message format string and sent that as a short message to the recipient (data/msgs/*.msg).ããIn v3.20, this feature was changed to use a (new) text.dat string instead. The mail server's "NO_NOTIFY" option flag can be used to disable this feature:ã
https://gitlab.synchro.net/main/sbbs/-/commit/99312621ae38ad326d4515fa596e8fe6c3a2ac50ããThese short messges (telegrams) are sent to user whether they are logged in or not.ãã > I thought it used to happen, but I could be mistaken.ã >ã > When I am logged in, I do get a notification that an email had just beenã > received.ã >ã > Anyway that can be fixed (or added if I was mistaken and it was neverã > working)?ã >ã > IE: A "you've got new email" message when you log in.ããThat's how it normally works. Perhaps you have something consuming/deleting your user messages? I think ecWeb will consume/delete user messages. Do youã > have that open/logged-in somewhere?ããI dont use ecweb, nor am I logged in from another interface that would consume it.ããThis morning, I was logged off, sent a message. When the logs showed the SMTP message received, I logged on. No telegram, but the message was in my unread list.ããWhile then logged on, I sent another email, and I got the "New e-mail from ..." telegram when it was received. (And only the 1 telegram.)ããWhat could be the cause?ããMy build is current as of yesterday.ããã...ëîåïãã---ã þ Synchronet þ AnsiTEX bringing back videotex but with ANSIã

If you see the missing email notification in the telegram history, that means the BBS thinks it showed it to you (e.g. during logon). You can also watch the data/msgs/0001.msg file (for user #1) and pay attention to when it changes or disappears. Normally, this happens in coincidence with the messages being displayed to the user (user #1 in this case).ã-- ã digital man (rob)ããSling Blade quote #11:ãDoyle Hargraves (to Karl): What in the hell you doin' with that hammer?ãNorco, CA WX: 66.8øF, 71.0% humidity, 9 mph SSW wind, 0.00 inches rain/24hrsã---ã þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.netã

Re: New email (SMTP) alert not triggered when not logged inã By: deon to Digital Man on Tue May 30 2023 11:16 amãã > Still seems to me that it is not posting a message when I am logged off?ããLooking at the mail server source and history, it appears that is intentional and the change was made 13 years ago (around line 2961 of mailsrvr.c):ã
https://gitlab.synchro.net/main/sbbs/-/commit/729eb16b838bbb3471a7753bfff6d1b51ããThe commit message doesn't explain *why* that change was made, but I assume it was to de-clutter the login after receiving a ton of SPAM email messages. <shrug>ããI could add an option to send email notices to offline users too (for you/your BBS). But this wasn't a recent change or bug.ã-- ã digital man (rob)ããThis Is Spinal Tap quote #10:ãDozens of people spontaneously combust each year... just not widely reported.ãNorco, CA WX: 63.0øF, 78.0% humidity, 13 mph E wind, 0.00 inches rain/24hrsã---ã þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.netã
