I've been pecking away at this project off and on for a bit and you can try itãout on your own bbs if you download the javascript and install like any jsãxtrn with the commandline "?oregontrail.js" or whatever:ããhttp://grudgemirror.com/bbs/oregontrail.jsããYou can also try it on my board : futureland.grudgemirror.com ... to get thereãyou'll have to navigate my interface however.* see the * asterik footnote atãthe bottom on how to do so.ããIt seems to work pretty well, but the way I went about writing the program wasãpretty haphazard (carving BASIC code into Javascript and trying to figure outãwhat was happening). Nonetheless, if you find a bug, let me know, or anythingãin the gameplay mechanics that need to be changed as well. ããI haven't really changed too much aside from adding some better(?) coloringãand formatting to the game and adding a random message to tell you you're aãlousy shot when you type the wrong word. I might make some changes to theãgame in the future, like using ANSI instead of text, and perhaps changing theãtheme. Anyways, assuming this doesn't have any bugs it would probably be theãclosest to the original 1977 code I used as my reference towards being likeãthe original game (which can be found here for reference :ãhttp://deserthat.wordpress.com/2010/11/07/oregon-trail-ver-3-basic-3- 1-1978/)ããAnyhow, I'm rambling. See the footnote below for how to try it out on my bbsã(guest account available) :ãã*from the main interface, press TAB to exit chat into the menu. use the arrowãkeys to select "games" from the menu, select "more external programsãunorganized" to get to the default Synchronet externals menu, select "Games"ãfrom the menu and then select "oregon trail". (the game does not properlyãecho console output when launched from my frame shell, i'm working on this,ãbut it shouldn't be an issue for most people outside of my board)ãã---ã þ Synchronet þ telnet to utureland.grudgemirror.com and check out our website for a sneak preã

I forgot about the tombstones (I actually don't remember too much ofãthe game), but the basics are you shoot stuff and buy supplies and try to makeãit the end of the trail. ããAnyone with a shred of know how and some time can probably change the stringsãto make a custom version, and I encourage people to do so, but if it's cool letãme know so I can check it out. I might do such a thing, but as it is I've beenãa bit too lazy to log on to my own board. It also wouldnt be hard at all toãintegrate Ansi screens for the events as well. I personally think the game isãpretty dry, and I think I did when I was a youngster too. But it's ripe forãsatire.ããcheers,ãllmorphgããããããã ãã---ã þ Synchronet þ telnet to utureland.grudgemirror.com and check out our website for a sneak preã
