Is it worth getting a better ãmodem? The one they gave me has been working fine. But will I get a higher ãspeed from a better brand? ãã-=>***************************************************************<=-ã * Music is the science of manipulating emotion through sound. *ã ***************************************************************ãã---ã þ Synchronet þ PhantomRage Studios:

Now, when your talking point to point DSL where yourãeither own or rent a coper pair from point A to point B then yes better modemsãget you better speeds. Unless you are way out on the fringe of being too farãaway from the CO to get DSL then better modems won't do you much good as justãplain old modems. ããOn to features, this is probably why Tracker is running a Cisco modem insteadãof the supplied ISP modem. Cheap modem == crappy features, personally I'mãhappy tho with a simple modem that just lets me do all the fancy stuff in myãrouter the way I want to do it.ããBetaã---ã þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.netã

I simply do notãlike this. Also, there weren't any clear instructions on how to do theãmultiple IP block for the modem I was given by the ISP (rental), and ordered ãthe Cisco before I figured it out... the cisco worked a bit better, though ãusing the serial mgt cable takes getting used to.ããI'm not a huge network guy, and appreciate the web interfaces offered byãsome devices these days, but feel it's undue overhead. Will probablyãupgrade my firewall before I do anything with the dsl modem though.ãã-- ãMichael J.
