From Rwebb616@VERT to All on Mon Jun 11 20:34:18 2018
Hi Everyone. I'm posting this under unix discussion because I believe this toãbe more of a unix related problem than a Synchronet related one. I've justãcompiled Synchronet on CentOS and the compiling was successful (albeit withãmany warnings on files starting with js). Anyhoo..ããMy question is when I run the command line utilities like scfg all the lineãdrawing is messed up. I'm using putty and UTF-8 on my translation and xtermãfor my term type. (pretty much the default). ããI've tried downloading SyncTerm for windows and I couldn't get it to connectãon SSH - it gave me some sort of handshake error - I was trying to connect toãlinux with it, not the BBS. ããI've tried different fonts in putty and also copying the terminfo and termcapãfiles and setting those up according to the docs. I guess I'm at a loss as toãhow to get the lines to look pretty! :)ããI'm very new to Synchronet but not Linux or computers in general - I own myãown IT consulting company going on about 18 years so I'm competent just needãsome help. Thank you!ããRichã---ã þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.netã

Recent builds (after 1.0) incorporate a newer versionãof cryptlib which fixes most SSH incompatibilities.ãã > I've tried different fonts in putty and also copying the terminfo andã > termcap files and setting those up according to the docs. I guess I'm at aã > loss as to how to get the lines to look pretty! :)ããIf you're referrring to the Synchronet docs (wiki?) those termininfo/capsãsettings are for propert *remote* display of cursors programs (e.g. doors) runãby the BBS.ãã > I'm very new to Synchronet but not Linux or computers in general - I own myã > own IT consulting company going on about 18 years so I'm competent just needã > some help. Trying to get it to look likeãthe old Novell utilities (syscon) - I know I'm dating myself!ããã > Also, make sure you have Putty configured for a UTF-8 "Remote characer set"ã > (under settings->Window->Translation).ããYep that is what I have it set to. I'm seeing q's and x's where lines shouldãbe and a's where the background characters are supposed to be.ããã > What version of SyncTERM? That was under Windows. Under myãlinux desktop I'm ãjust using putty but I can probably just use the built in terminal. ããã > If you're referrring to the Synchronet docs (wiki?) those termininfo/capsã > settings are for propert *remote* display of cursors programs (e.g. doors)ã > run by the BBS.ãããYep the wiki. I didn't know if it would help so I just did it anyway since theãdocs said it can't hurt.ããRichã---ã þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.netã

When using Linux, I just useãthe default terminal program.ãã digital manããSynchronet "Real Fact" #96:ãSynchronet v3.13a was released in September of 2005 (9 months after v3.12a).ãNorco, CA WX: 84.1øF, 42.0% humidity, 3 mph ENE wind, 0.00 inches rain/24hrsã---ã þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.netã

I'm not aware of any specific existing pagers for that use. :-)ãã digital manããSynchronet/BBS Terminology Definition #54:ãUART = Universal Asynchronous Receiver/TransmitterãNorco, CA WX: 83.2øF, 43.0% humidity, 9 mph ENE wind, 0.00 inches rain/24hrsã---ã þ Synchronet þ Vertrauen þ Home of Synchronet þ [vert/cvs/bbs].synchro.netã
