I've been running Lubuntu since 2014, and needed to upgrade my laptop. Lubuntuã18.10 uses LxQT instead of LXDE, and I ran into some glitches with it.ããOn a lark, I threw MINT 19 on it, and I'm impressed. Google Drive support,ãbetter eye candy, a search tool in the start menu, and it's not taking muchãmore memory than LXDE.ããThe backup tool looks pretty cool, I'm going tosee about setting up a backup toãmy web host.ããApparently 19.1 is coming out my Christmas, we'll see what's changed. By then,ãI'll have an ultrabay SATA drive, which'll make backing up and restoringãfaster.ãã---ã þ Synchronet þ realitycheckBBS -- http://realitycheckBBS.orgã

I'm running Linux Mint on my secondary PC, whichãruns a couple servers and runs my BBS in a Win7 VM. Currently it has 18.3 (Iãbelieve) on it. I haven't upgraded to 19 as I've heard the upgrade process toã19.x doesn't seem to work very well. I may re-install a fresh copy of Mint onãthat machine eventually, since I upgraded to a larger hard drive a while agoãand the only way I could make use of all the space was to add anotherãpartition, due to it using a MBR partition table. From what I've heard,ãupdating to a GPT partition table would be better for a larger drive, and itãsounds like the drive would need to be reformatted for that.ããNightfoxãã---ã þ Synchronet þ Digital Distortion: digitaldistortionbbs.comã

I'm not sure I'd want toãinstall a different Linux distro on that machine of mine, as I like Mint, andãit seems to be running well for what I need. Currently I'm using VirtualBoxãfor my VM and it does what I need.ããNightfoxãã---ã þ Synchronet þ Digital Distortion: digitaldistortionbbs.comã

My root drive is a pair of mirroredãSSDs not so much for any extra speed but for the safety of having a space.ãThis has root and /home on it, swap, boot /var etc.ãThen I have 4 x 4TB hard drives in a RAID10 configuration. This is whereãeverything else gets stored that I want like photos, music, videos. Stuff Iãdon't ever want to lose. I backup using burp backup to a remote serverãdaily. I also have a 2GB "scratch" drive for when I do stuff like restoresãof other people's stupidity. There's also a pair of bluray players so I canãdo disc to disc copies if necessary.ããIt works well.ãã---ã þ Synchronet þ End Of The Line BBS - endofthelinebbs.comã
