Hi, iam trying to open the Control Panel in SymbOS 2.1 and i always get the error:

File not found:
The file or the path don't exist.
Please check your input.

Any Ideas what's going wrong?

I think you need to switch disks to the apps disk. At least if you're
running from disk? What machine are you on? If you've got an hdd install or similar it's possible that the shortcut is broken, you could go to the file manager and try running from there.

Just my ideas, I'm no expert on SymbOS.

Hi. iam using a 6128 with HcX Emulator as drive B. The rom is on the
symbiface II. How can i force SymbOS to read from drive B. I don't have a working 3" disk to copy the files to the drive A. (Files from the base dsk file).

Hmm, I think if you have all 4 ROMs installed in the symbiface it should
"just work".

all 4 roms are present. but also with sugarbos emulator with the delivered symbiface rom the control panel is only working if there is the disk in

I think you need to switch disks to the apps disk. At least if you're
running from disk? What machine are you on? If you've got an hdd instal=

l or

similar it's possible that the shortcut is broken, you could go to the = file
manager and try running from there.

Just my ideas, I'm no expert on SymbOS.

You need to edit the symbos.ini file (which should have been created in the bottom/root directory of one if the drives) and change the systempath to
let it know where to find files. I can't find a document about this, maybe
it's in the readme or something for symbos.

Hi Martin,

it seems, that the link is not correct, maybe because the system path is
not properly set.
Some notes:
- on what platform are you using SymbOS 2.1? (Amstrad CPC, MSX or
Amstrad PCW?)
- if you run it directly from floppy disc, please note that the boot
disc, which contains the Control Panel application, has to be present in
the proper drive
- if it can't be found you can start it manually: open the Startmenu,
choose "Run" and then "Browse" to select the file "appcp.exe"
- in the control panel you can edit all icon and startmenu links
(doubleclick the "desktop links" icon) as well as the system path
(double click the "system" icon)
- SymbOS will always search for the control panel inside the system
path, so this has to be correct and the appcp???.exe files have to be
placed there

Hi J=C3=B6rn, yes this is one step further!!!

At the moment i have the SymbOS 2.0 on my CPC 6128 with Symbiface II. The control panel stuff seems to be fixed now with starting from drive be
(which is a HcX SD Floppy Emulator).

But why the disk is still need if i have all 4 ROMs placed on the Symbiface
II?

The next step will be to install 2.1 on the Symbiface II but there i have a problem with roman if i call &2000 nothing happens.

The ROMs only hold the OS not the applications. If you have a symbiface the best thing to do is install everything to the C drive, then you don't need
any floppy disks.

the best thing to do is install everything to the C drive, then you don't need any floppy disks.

Hi again,

the ROMs only contain the operating system itself and are used for
booting it in a fast way like from a ram disc. There are no additional applications (e.g. the control panel) inside the roms.
I recommend you to copy all additional files to the IDE device (maybe in
a dedicated folder, which would be the system path then) connected to
the SYMBiFACE II, in this case you don't need any floppy disc access
anymore.
You could also use the SymbOS rom manager ( http://www.symbos.de/apps.htm?2#marke3 ) to install the ROMs in the SF2. Unfortunately I am not experienced with Roman.

I have solved some troubles with the setup, now i have one problem still pending:

1. i can start symbos 2.1 as rom version
2. i can start appcp.exe from the hcx disk
3. i can add the hd to the system and set it as boot device and as system
path
4. i can save the config and get a symbos.ini on hd (drive c)

if i shut down symbos and restart it with |SYM the hd is present also the stored settings

if i do a cold start (even with waiting some time for the hd startup the hd isn't existing anymore in symbos if i redo step 3 again i see that the symbos.ini file is still on the hd with the date of the last save of
settings triggered by me. but it is not used anymore even if i do a cold
start with it. it can only be used for warmstarts if i also do step 4 again=
.

does anybody have an idea what the problem could be?
